7 steps to manage your brand's phone number reputation

7 steps to manage your brand's phone number reputation

Managing your brand's phone number reputation is essential to maintaining the trust and confidence of your customers. A negative perception of your phone number can lead to a loss of business and damage to your brand's reputation.

Think about it: Customers answer calls from numbers they trust. If your phone number is marked as spam, they probably won’t pick up. So, how can you ensure your brand’s phone number is in good health?

Here are some steps you can take to manage your brand's phone number reputation:

1. Check on your phone number regularly

Incorporate checking your number's reputation into your routine to ensure that it is not associated with unwanted or spammy calls. You can use online tools or services to check your phone number's reputation, such as Robokiller’s Global Spam Call Directory. You can also check out the National Do Not Call Registry, the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Reassigned Numbers Database, and the FCC’s Consumer Complaint Center for additional resources.

2. Keep your phone number listing up-to-date

Make sure that your phone number listing is up-to-date and accurate. Remove any numbers that are no longer in use or that have been disconnected. This will help to ensure your calls reach the right people and that your phone number does not get linked to unwanted or spammy calls.

3. Use caller ID spoofing prevention tools

Caller ID spoofing is a technique that allows scammers to make calls that appear to be coming from a legitimate phone number. To prevent caller ID spoofing, you can use caller ID spoofing prevention tools (these can also help you get STIR/SHAKEN compliant).

4. Be transparent about your calls

Exercise transparency about the nature of your calls and the purpose of the call. Let the person know who you are and why you are calling. This will help to build trust and confidence in your brand, and it will also reduce the likelihood of reports against your brand that will impact your reputation.

5. Respond to customer complaints

If a customer complains about unwanted or spammy calls from your phone number, take their complaint seriously and respond to it promptly. Investigate the complaint and take appropriate action to address it, including removing them from your call database. This will help to maintain the trust and confidence of your customers.

6. Comply with regulations

Make sure that your phone number reputation management practices comply with all relevant regulations, including the TCPA and the Do Not Call Registry (DNC). You must also make sure you’re in compliance with STIR/SHAKEN, which is a set of technical standards that helps to identify and authenticate phone calls. According to the FCC, “STIR/SHAKEN digitally validates the handoff of phone calls passing through the complex web of networks, allowing the phone company of the consumer receiving the call to verify that a call is in fact from the number displayed on Caller ID.”
